Swan Cottage - Royal Tunbridge Wells

Swan Cottage is a pretty house built in 1810 and situated in a quiet backwater in the centre of the old ‘Village Area’ of Tunbridge Wells.

The High Street with its shops, pubs and restaurants is only a few metres away and the cottage is just five minutes walk from Tunbridge Wells main line station and frequent fast trains to London and the Coast.

Walk to the other end of the High Street and you will find more shopping in Chapel Place, which leads down to the famous Regency Pantiles with its covered walks. Here is the Chalybeate Spring discovered by Lord North in 1606 and the birthplace of Tunbridge Wells itself where you can still sample the spring water. At the end of the Pantiles is the Spa Valley Railway, that in the summer takes you by steam train to Groombridge village with its two pubs and Groombridge Place and Gardens. For more conventional shopping there is the Royal Victoria Place shopping mall at the top end of the town.

Other local attractions include castles and stately homes such as Knole, Penshurst Place, Hever Castle, Batemans and famous gardens, Sissinghurst, Pashley Manor, Great Dixter and Scotney Castle Garden.

Lingfield Racecourse is only a 20 minute drive from Tunbridge Wells and we are placed right in the centre of the beautiful Kent and Sussex countryside and only 35 miles from the South Coast .

Swan Cottage is ideally situated for travel to London, being 40 minutes by train. Gatwick Airport is 40 minutes drive away and Heathrow about one hour and twenty minutes. The Channel Tunnel and cross Channel ferries are also about a one hour drive, with regular boats and trains to France.
